Described as a prominent creative force of Asian theatre to be reckoned with respect, Goh Boon Teck’s works cross cultural and territorial borders enthralling audiences of different nationalities and ethnicities. His works are showcases of humanity deftly dealt with post-modern sensitivity, yet staying firmly focused on profound human issues and morality. Boon Teck’s purposeful direction also encapsulates aesthetically-pleasing visions into which he weaves in socially conscious messages from our lives and loves. This young director oozes unapologetic courage and distinctive drive and a finely attuned sense and appreciation of beauty and aesthetics. A professional theatre director, playwright and production designer with more than a decade of experience under his belt, Boon Teck is also the first recipient of the VISA International Arts Scholarship, a ticket which enabled him to pursue a Masters in Theatre Directing in London, United Kingdom.

Having graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore with a string of merit awards to his name, he brings to the theatre scene, a strong and much-needed creative sense and vision for aesthetics, words, sound and visuals. Boon Teck is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin and presently, continues to lead one of Singapore’s most vibrant and productive theatre companies, Toy Factory Productions Ltd.

TITOUDAO, a play written and directed by Boon Teck, won five out of nine awards at the inaugural LIFE! Theatre Awards in 2001. The awards included Best Play of the Year, Best Original Script, Best Production Design, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor. This play went on to tour Cairo, Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou to similar critical aplomb and a big screen adaptation is now in the works.

In the same year, i.e. 2001, Boon Teck received the prestigious National Arts Council Young Artist Award for his contribution to the development of Singaporean theatre. He was also awarded Best Set Design for the production FIREFACE at the LIFE! Theatre Awards in 2003.

That year, he was commissioned by Japan’s Kageboushi Theatre Company to write and direct a six-countries collaboration titled PRISM, which was funded by The Japan Foundation. This touring production premiered in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space Theatre and went on to play in Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.

A prolific director, Boon Teck’s works include POSTETERNE, OSEAN, I HAVE A DATE WITH SPRING, PURPLE, K, MAMA LOOKING FOR HER CAT, STORM, UNDER, GUYS AND DOLLS, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, WHITE SAILS OVER BLUE BLUE SEA, A TINTED EDGE, THE EASTERN LINE ON MY PALM, THE SEVENTH DRAWER, BEAUTIFUL THING, THE MORNING PEOPLE, CHESSMASTER, OLEANNA, MEE POK MAN, MAD PHOENIX and PRISM.

Other recent stage design credits include SHOPPING AND F***ING, MR BENG, THE EASTERN LINE ON MY PALM, THE SEVENTH DRAWER, A RIGHT RITUAL, BEAUTIFUL THING, K, THE MORNING PEOPLE, STOP KISS, BENT, FIREFACE and CHESSMASTER.

Lighting Designer
A Theatre Lighting Designer and Consultant based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Mac graduated from the Malaysia Institute of Arts, Drama department in 1993, furthering his studies in Taiwan in Stage Management and the Lighting Design (1994 – 1995).
Since 1998, he has been an independent lighting designer for commercial projects, which include the 16th Commonwealth Games Opening and the Closing Ceremonies and the Grand Opening of the Petronas Twin Towers. He has also been working on architectural lighting. Since 1991, his theatrical lighting designs have been seen in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, America, Australia, United Kingdom and South Africa.

Mac has been intensively involved in researching Contemporary Asian Theatre Architecture since 2001. In 2004, he received support from the ANA – Ford Foundation to further establish a network across Asia and to the address issues in Asian Technical Theatre. In 2002, he established a theatre consultancy – TheatreSense Sdn. Bhd, working on theatre and media facilities construction. His most recent project was Toy Factory’s Cabaret

Chance, conversation, improvisation… "sonicbrat" is the ambisonic brainchild of Darren Ng. As a believer in poetic imperfection, most of his music are performed and recorded on the fly without multi-tracking.

Ng is a Singapore-based sound artist and music composer whose electro-acoustic sound-bites have established him as one of the most sought after sound designer and music composer/arranger in the local theatre and art scene, whose works have been compared to Erik Satie, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Martin Denny by international music reviewers from U.K. (WIRE: Ken Hollings), U.S.A. (Bluesbunny) and Hong Kong (Hompy). Trained in classical piano, he has ventured into the digital realm of sampling, Musique Concrete, acousmatic music, digital and analogue synthesis; bringing a new sonic experience for his listeners.

He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies and Philosophy. He has been active in the theatre and sound art scene for the last seven years. To date, he has had 8 nominations in total for his works and had won the coveted award of Best Sound Designer at the 6th and 8th Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards 2006 and 2008 respectively; and had an Honourable Mention for Special Achievement, for Best Sound in the 5th Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards 2005. Darren Ng is currently an Associate Sound Designer for The Finger Players.

Hair Designer
Ashley started his hairstyling career in 1986 and set up his own Ashley Salon in 1999, in order to further pursue his dedication towards the art of hairdressing, especially with theatrical work.

Ashley became involved with theatrical work in 1987 and has since, worked with almost 150 productions of local and international standards. Many of these productions were participants of drama festivals, some of which became nominees and/or winners of art awards. Ashley has gained a wide range and depth of experience working with all the leading professional theatrical companies of Singapore. He had the opportunities to create hair designs ranging from a diversity of different cultures and periodic eras.

His skill is extensive, culminating from more than 2 decades of hairdressing experience. He is privileged to have been widely recognized by our local theatre community as a veteran in his artistry. Ashley is particularly thrilled to have participated in the opening of the Singapore Esplanade in the Bay in October 2002 whereby he was the Creative Hair Designer for the World Premier of the musical show ‘Forbidden City - The Portrait of the Empress Dowager’, and Selena Tan’s ‘Cabaret Show’ which subsequently became the successful Dim Sum Dollies annual shows.

Apart from theatre, Ashley also extends his work to TV shows and advertorial works for leading local fashion magazines providing contemporary hair designs for bridal and fashion projects.

The rest of his time while not working with the theatres or commercial projects, Ashley stays put in his salon happily snipping hair for his clients, many of whom have became good friends and long time supporters of his modest business.

Choreographer
Gordon sings, dances, acts, choreographs, performs wushu, acrobatic stunts, the lion and dragon dance, stilt-walking, Chinese Opera & drumming. An ex-National Wushu team member, Gordon was also formerly an artiste, choreographer and assistant stage manager with the Singapore Armed Forces’ Music & Drama Company.

His theatre credits include Chang & Eng, Mr Beng, East-Side Story and Visit Of the Tai-Tai. He choreographed the fight sequences for Dim Sum Dollies in 2005, Boxing Cabaret and was the Dance Captain for Aladdin, Oi! Sleeping Beauty and Jack & the Beansprout. He was also the choreographer for Toy Factory's Spirits and Ten Brothers and the production coordinator for A Kung Fu Tale. His film credits include I Not Stupid Too and One Last Dance.

Other choreography credits include the 2003 National Day Parade's (NDP) Tribute To Healthcare Workers, the World Cyber Games Opening, the wushu and acrobatic segment for the 117th IOC Session Opening, President's Star Charity 2005, Asian Aerospace, Aichi World Expo Opening, NDP 2006 pre-parade finale and World Lottery Convention 2006.
